Earlier this month, Avaya and RingCentral announced a strategic partnership. This brings a long period of acquisition rumors to an end for Avaya for the time being. RingCentral is a global provider of cloud-based Unified Communications solutions.
The strategic partnership between Avaya and RingCentral includes a capital injection by RingCentral of some €450mln. Part of this amount will be converted into a share package. This makes RingCentral an exclusive provider of cloud-based UCaaS for Avaya. The agreement is expected to be approved this quarter.
Avaya will use RingCentral’s cloud technology. A new service is being developed specifically for Avaya: Avaya Cloud Office or ACO.
ACO represents a very important and welcome addition to Avaya’s portfolio. With this, Avaya offers a complete range of unified communications, contact center, UCaaS and CCaaS solutions. Avaya Cloud Office should ensure that Avaya customers can seamlessly use RingCentral’s global cloud platform.
The partnership is great news for our customers. A really good UCaaS solution offers a lot of flexibility and functionality
With the addition of ACO to the portfolio, customers can choose from an in-house system, a fully cloud-based solution or something in between. The deal is also important for RingCentral. The company has about two million connections, by comparison: Avaya provides more than a hundred million connections worldwide. Therefore, the collaboration is expected to have a significant impact on the overall market.
